LAB14 - Laser beam source

High power ultrashort pulse seed laser beam source

One of the major obstacles for the implementation of universal laser processing is the fact that so far different laser beam sources are still required for different laser processes, especially for cw and USP processes.

A laser system that allows a versatile and very fast switchable operating mode (cw or ps or both combined) is a world first and offers a unique opportunity to explore combined laser processes (e.g. additive + subtractive). Further flexibility is provided by the ability to set user-defined repetition rates and pulse durations of the USP radiation.

Together with the project goals within the Future Laser Processing Lab (Lab1), the planned work will pave the way for or enable the industrial implementation of universal laser processing.

Project Goal, Approach, and Benefits

The aim of the project is to extend the flexible future laser (LAB1) with a new laser beam source. This serves as a new seed laser for the system's short pulse function. The aim is to enable user-defined selection of the repetition rate as well as the pulse durations and pulse sequences of the system. The seed laser delivers an output power of > 80 W. This is the next step towards a universally applicable laser system (universal laser source).
