SdMobi1 - Connected Electric Vehicles

Improving product development and operation by detecting faults and exceptional situations in the electrical powertrain and driving dynamics

The level of automation in vehicles increases while powertrains are electrified. The real-time detection and handling of faults and exceptional situations in the electric powertrain and vehicle dynamics is essential for the driver's safety. Modern communication and information technologies support monitoring hazardous faults and situations and influencing safety-critical driving functions. The vehicle's condition is fed back into the product development process to use the long-term experience gained during operation.

Aim and approach

The project aims to improve product development and vehicle operation by detecting the faults and exceptional situations in the electrical powertrain and vehicle dynamics. Therefore, vehicles and their components are networked via 5G and a digital twin to make assessments and derive improvements "online" and in the simulation. It allows optimizing operations and improving the product development process through information and findings from real operations.

5G technology supports the connectivity of vehicles and their components. Furthermore, it enables the exchange with the digital twin in the cloud and is suitable for the feedback of insights from the operation into product creation and production. AI-supported methods help to control and improve failure and exceptional cases of the electric powertrain and vehicle dynamics "online" in simulation and on the prototype.
