IC18 - AssemblAR

Optimization of assembly planning through innovative AR solutions

Mobility systems will become increasingly complex in the future as a result of trends such as digitization, sustainability and individualization, as they include, for example, a large number of interacting subsystems with mechanical, electronic and software-based elements. This also increases the need for structured collaboration between product and production system development. Especially in the step from product development to assembly of the system to be developed, there are many possibilities to integrate assembly planning into the development process at an early stage.

Aim and approach

One possibility for the early integration of assembly planning is the use of AR technologies, where initial solutions already exist. However, these are not used extensively in companies and therefore desktop solutions tend to be used. The goal of the project "AssemblAR" is to find out how to develop an AR solution in assembly planning and how to optimize an existing solution.

  • For this purpose, the problems that such approaches have in assembly planning will first be identified and concretized in order to subsequently define application scenarios for AssemblAR.
  • Based on this, concrete requirements as well as criteria are derived, which are defined for the integration in the company.
  • These requirements and deployment scenarios are then consolidated into a product profile that describes the needs situation.
  • Both the requirements and the deployment scenarios are used to find existing references and define them as solution building blocks for the implementation of AssemblAR.

Over the complete process AssemblAR is validated several times, for example a prototype is presented at the Motek trade fair for production and assembly automation and feedback from potential customers and users is used.

Benefit

The results of the projects are used in assembly planning in the development process. The user should have the possibility to check the assemblability of the system at an early stage and to discuss it interdisciplinary as well as virtually. Thereby the perfect degree of immersivity or virtualization can be defined to develop a solution that meets the requirements.
