Optimal design of cellular structures for a lightweight car body
Today's political goals and societal demands call for a significant reduction in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. Therefore, it is necessary to consider a reduction of vehicle weight.
Cellular lattice structures with a repeating structure of a predefined unit cell can ensure weight reduction while increasing the absorption of impact energy. The project aimed to identify optimal cellular lattice structures for a lightweight body through virtual design, numerical calculations, and experimental testing and production using laser-based powder fusion (PBF-LB) technology.
