ICM flirts with the theater

Science performance: Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and KIT bring science and society together with the production "Nerds save the world". The ICM is also involved.

The transfer between science, culture, economy and society is an important task in a challenging time. In order to connect research and theater even more closely, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, together with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), interprets current research topics in an artistic way in the production "Nerds save the world". It offers a creative performative outlook towards the future at several locations on KIT's South Campus.

Current research in the fields of mobility, artificial intelligence, energy, and climate and environment form the basis for the joint performance, which is a mix of video installation and performance.

The InnovationCampus Future Mobility (ICM) also plays a role - at least in terms of content. The theater makers present four ICM projects dedicated to the use of hydrogen for mobility technologies. Entertaining, amusing and above all charming. For characters have been developed from the four projects, who pack all their scientific and technical merits into their answers and thus vie for the favor of a questioner - like in the TV flirt show "Herzblatt".

"With 'Nerds Save the World', we bring science and society together in an innovative way and give new impulses for dialog," says KIT President Professor Holger Hanselka. "For this purpose, we link important questions about the future with artistic forms of expression and theater languages." The performance connects, for example, architecture with conflict research, science communication with theater, and research with art enthusiasts.
