DEMO3 - BaKaRoS@ICM

Educational kit for the realization of photonic systems at the ICM

How can we get pupils interested in engineering? The BaKaRoS optics construction kit was developed for this purpose as part of previous projects. This kit allows the realization of simple optical/photonic experiments including items such as a microscope, a spectrometer or a telescope.

However, specifically for the Innovation Campus Future Mobility (ICM), the kits need to be adapted to effectively address methods of modern production and mobility in the context of workshops.

Aim

The aim of the project is to develop four different optics kits and didactic concepts. The goal is to provide students with hands-on experiences mobility in an interactive and playful manner that engage with ICM topics such as: Modern production methods/sensor technology, human-machine interface, AI-based environment recognition and autonomous/modern mobility concepts.

Approach

  • Finding concepts for ICM optics kits in internal workshops
  • Integration of the topics of sensor technology, image capture, mobility, user interface
  • Conducting workshops with existing kits for creative brainstorming
  • Production of four customized kits
  • Creation of building instructions, workshop material and didactic concept
  • Use of the kits in various student workshops

Nutzen

  • Generic kits for further use in the ICM
  • Brainstorming/use of the kits in ICM projects and student work
  • Increasing interest in engineering programs at the University of Stuttgart and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
