DEMO10 - ADA-M & EVE

Adorable Dynamic Animals for Motivating Engineering Via Education

Mobile Robots connect many elements from different engineering disciplines. Thus they are a prime example for mechanics, electronics, sensors and software for education and science communication. Design, buildup, programming and development of user interfaces as well as using the robots in different scenarios are all fascinating and demonstrative examples for university and college students. The technical basics from the robots are then set into perspective with current advancements in mobility and logistics in manufacturing. This connects the robots with a realistic context.

Aim

The aim of the project is to design and build five four-legged robots. Gait patterns are programmed for the robots and a user interface is created to simplify their use. These tasks will be incorporated into university teaching. Tasks are created for the finished robots, the solution of which is designed as a project for students.

Approach

  • Design of the robots (mechanics, electrics, sensors, control software, communication)
  • Construction of the robots
  • Implementation of an axis control
  • Design and implementation of a user interface
  • Creation of tasks and demonstrations for students that illustrate the various disciplines and the connection of the robots to the mobility of the future
  • Design and implementation of advertising materials (e.g. posters, roll-ups, handouts) to summarize and communicate the content

Benefit

  • Projects for students allowing them to experience the theoretical content of their studies in practice
  • Informing and advertising to pupils about problems, solutions and research in Baden- Württemberg in the field of engineering and mechatronics
